Head Teacher Performance Management

Although the requirement for Local Authorities to provide School Improvement Partners (SIPS) is about to be abolished (and in many cases schools’ SIPs have long since been withdrawn) – Regulation 9 of the Performance Management Regulations 2006 still requires governing bodies to appoint an external adviser to ‘provide advice and support in relation to the performance management of headteachers’. The DfE has just consulted about new performance management arrangements for teachers and headteachers, but intends to retain the requirement for external advice. Make sure you have appointed an appropriate person.
